One Room Challenge Fall 2022 Week 1: Declutter and Creating a Game Plan
I had big plans for our home gym refresh this Week 1 with One Room Challenge Fall 2022. And then, Hurricane Ian became a thing.
So, this week’s plans are a little bit more low key, to make up for the time spent prepping for the hurricane’s arrival and a day without power.
Quick Recap
Quick recap: I’m renovating our second floor loft into a cute, coastal home gym as part of One Room Challenge Fall 2022!
This will be a major budget refresh, so I’m hoping to keep the all-in cost under $250.
Key features in the room: giving the walls a fresh new color, building a rack for free weights, a space for a wall-mounted barre, building some vertical storage, and a cool feature wall next to our Peloton.
Week 1’s Itinerary
While I really wanted to paint or build something for the gym this week, that simply didn’t happen.
Wednesday and Thursday were eaten up with hurricane prep (getting ready for the storm + getting outdoor things done we usually do over the weekend). And, Friday the storm arrived. E was home from school, and we were without power for most of the day.
So, any plans to be super productive in the gym space went out the window.
Life.
“Demo” aka Decluttering
What did get done in Week 1 of the One Room Challenge Fall 2022?
Demo day. Aka decluttering the loft space of anything that didn’t belong. If you saw my Reel or Tiktok on Tuesday, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.
That included my old desk I built last year, but no longer need now that I have a fancy new cloffice. A bunch of baby stuff that needs to go in the attic.
The door to the laundry room that we’re planning on replacing with a barn door. At some point.
And, the old primary bedroom tv, which is becoming the new guest room tv.
I may or may not have moved things to the hallway, so they were out of the space. BUT. They are out of the gym! Putting them where they belong is a problem for tomorrow.
Creating a Game Plan
Next up on this week’s agenda for the home gym refresh: creating a (realistic) game plan to accomplish everything I want to accomplish, but also allow me time to work on the 8 million other things I’m sure I’m going to want to work on over the next two months.
So, here’s a look at what you’re in store for:
- Week 1 (Sept 28): Decluttering and Choosing a Paint Color
- Week 2 (Oct 5): Painting the Room ( I get to try a super cool new product to paint with, so make sure you check back next week to see how it works!)
- Week 3 (Oct 12): Out of town!
- Week 4 (Oct 19): Feature Wall Install, Install Wall-Mounted Barre
- Week 5 (Oct 26): Mount TV & Mirrors
- Week 6 (Nov 2): Build Free Weight Storage
- Week 7 (Nov 9): Build Peg Board Wall for Vertical Storage
- Week 8 (Nov 16): Finish Up all the Leftovers
Ok. I think that’s it. What do y’all think? Can I complete One Room Challenge Fall 2022? And, how many other projects am I going to start while working on this space? 3? 7? The limit does not exist?
