What Are Snap Power Lights?

I discovered Snap Power Lights when we moved into our townhome 4 years ago. We had a couple places that were super dark at night (hall bath, kitchen, basement), and I was looking for a more attractive solution than just buying a bunch of nightlights. These fit the bill perfectly.

Snap Power Lights come in a couple of options. There are options for both outlets and switch plates, GFI outlets, 3-way switches, and double switches.

Oh! I almost forgot: one of my favorite features on the newer Snap Power Lights is that you can adjust the light! So, if you have a guest coming over that doesn’t like light when they sleep, they can simply switch it off. Easy peasy!

Best Places to Put Snap Power Lights

For our townhome, there were a couple of places that they made a really big difference:

  • The switch plate in our nursery, so we can easily walk into the nursery at night for diaper changes and bottle feeds, without running into the crib in the dark or waking the baby up with the overhead light.
  • The switch plates in our hallways, so we could have a little light in the hallway in the middle of the night. Bonus–you can always find the light switch in the dark.
  • The outlets in our kitchen and bath. It made middle of the night bathroom breaks and fridge raids so much easier!

In our new home we’ve added Snap Power Lights to the outlets along our second floor hallway. The hallway leads to our guest room and the kids’ rooms, so it’s often traveled at night. And, it’s so nice not to have to turn the overhead light on.

We’ve also added them to the entryway, so we can always see our front door down the hallway at night.

Don’t Forget About Your Guests

Another great place for these Snap Power lights is your guest room. Think about it: you’re spending the night at your brother’s house, and you need to get a glass of water in the middle of the night. You get out of bed and stumble into the dresser, then have a death grip on the railing while trying to safely climb down the dark stairwell, and then get blinded by the kitchen light when you give up trying to make your way in the dark.

Instead, you install a Snap Power switch light in the guest room, so your guests can easily navigate the room at night. You install switch lights at the top and bottom of the stairs, so your guests can walk down the stairs without issues. And, you put some in the kitchen in your countertop outlets, so the fridge is easily found.

Such an easy fix for an annoying problem!

How to Install Snap Power Lights

Installing the Snap Power Lights is super easy. All you need is your screwdriver!

Simply remove the old switch plate or outlet cover.

Then place the Snap Power Light in place, making sure the little plastic connector is touching the screw in the middle of your outlet or switch. You’ll know it’s placed right when the Snap Power Light turns on.

Next tighten the switch plate or outlet cover screw and you’re set!

Is It Really That Easy?

So, at this point I’ve installed maybe 10 of these, and almost all have been exactly as easy as I described above.

The one time I had an issue was with one of my 1950s outlets in our town home. I couldn’t get the Snap Power Light to line up correctly with the outlet to get it to turn on. I eventually gave up and installed it in another outlet.

So, just be aware that it may not be that simple in an older home.

That’s It!

These have been great problem-solvers for us, for things I didn’t really know were problems. So, grab one and give it a try! I wouldn’t be surprised if you were going back and picking a few more up a week after you install them 🙂
